Overview
Each time we hold back and regret it, or blow up and feel guilty, we lose an opportunity to become more skilful communicators. This two day course will enable you to develop your communication skills to create understanding and provide practical guidance on how to handle a range of working situations to achieve positive outcomes.

What is Assertiveness?
- Defining what is meant by assertiveness
- Identifying the impact of aggressive, submissive and assertive behaviour
- Recognising the value of adopting assertive behaviour
Productive Communication Skills
- Knowing how to express your ideas and opinions clearly, directly and positively
- Being aware of the impact of your tone and body language
- Giving and receiving feedback in a constructive manner
Techniques for Different Situations
- Knowing how to say "no" constructively
- Using different types of assertiveness to handle work situations
- The link between assertiveness, self esteem and confidence
- Using "self talk" to break unproductive behaviour patterns
Understanding Communication
- Using "Transactional Analysis" to understand human behaviour
- Being aware of how you impact upon and react to the behaviour of others
Course Features
This practical course uses interactive sessions, discussion and feedback to help build sound communication skills. There is an opportunity for self-analysis and structured guidance on how to implement assertiveness skills.
